The Paperthin crashes speak immediately and have a fairly quick decay. The tone is bright but mellow, with a soft, papery feel to the attack. Great explosive, quick accents where short sustain and control are needed in lower volume settings. Perfect for small gigs and recordings. The original Paiste Formula 602 cymbals were launched in 1959. They quickly established a reputation for fine, pure yet controlled musical tunes, and were adopted by jazz greats like Joe Morello and Art Blakey, US session supremo Ndugu Chancler; and in the UK Jon Hiseman, Charlie Watts and Bobby Elliot. Paiste stopped making 602s in the 1990s, as music became louder. However, Paiste clearly think that drummers are ready to re-embrace the warmth of the traditional CuSn20 bronze, and the re-released models are faithful reproductions of the originals both in look and sound. Available models include 16”, 18” and 20” thin crashes; 16” and 18” paper thin crashes; 20” medium and flat rides; and 14” sound-edge hi-hats.
